It's no news that Nigeria civil war was a bloody massacre. A war that ensued between the Nigerian government and the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) in 1967. The war lasted for more than 3 years with the south eastern part of the country one at the receiving end (the most slain). The Nigerian Army was so brutal in exterminating any igbo person at that time. Why did they go to war in the first place? Just like the Spanish government with the Catalonias seeking referendum, so also the igbos wanted to breakaway from Nigeria and form their own country. Biafra, land of the rising sun was an Utopia to the ibos but a threat to the Nigerian government.
Here are some reasons Nigeria must prevent the breakout of another war;
1. Blood: No war comes without blood, unless the wars are fought with dialogues. In the civil war that occurred between 1967 and 1970, there was a blood bath on our land. Our green land and rich black soil became polluted with red blood, blood of our brothers and fathers. War actually never leaves us the same. We are all obviously losers after a war
2. Meaning: It's obvious Nigeria war would be meaningless a meaningless and would be something borne out of greed or sentiment. For example, the Ife-mokeke war years ago became a ground for men to settle scores, killing scores of young innocent men in the process. Let's remember that 'a War fought without a meaning always brings meaningless adverse effect'. In the advent of any war, the masterminds her protection and safety for they and their household, leaving the common man to fight the battles (like Ojukwu did during the War).
3. Economic adverse effect: Till today, there's no African country that has gone into outright war and is enjoying the fruits. Actually war only gives sour fruits. Think of Libya. When Gadaffi was ruling without war, there was relatively peace and the economic situation was very stable, enjoyable and commendable. As soon as the revolt against Gadafii's donkey years of rule came into play, the economic situation became dilapidated and till now Libya has not recovered. Think of Syria or Vietnam, the facts are glaring.
It's obvious a war is not what we need right now. Let's embrace dialogue for peace is all we need and pray the god of war doesn't visit us anytime soon.
