Troops of the 32
Artillery Brigade, Owena Barracks in Akure, the Ondo State capital, have
arrested some suspected kidnappers in the state.
The kidnappers
were nabbed during a five-day clearance operation conducted by the Nigerian
Army across various flash points in Ondo.
During the
operation, which spanned across the forests of Ajowa, Akunnu, Ise, Auga, Isua
and Ikakumo – Akoko, suspected kidnappers’ camps were destroyed and some
suspected abductors arrested.
The Assistant
Director of Army Public Relations, Major Ojo Adenegan, in a statement made
available to DAILY POST, disclosed that the suspects confessed to be involved
in several kidnappings within the Akoko axis.
He also revealed
that the suspects have been handed over to appropriate security agencies for
further investigation and prosecution.
Major Adenegan,
however, urged the public to provide useful information that would assist in
arresting other collaborators still on the run.
Last year, a
similar raid was carried out along Oba Akoko axis on Owo/Ikare Akoko road
through which some bandits were also arrested.
The Akoko axis,
which has become nightmare for motorists transiting from the state to the
northern part of the country, has over the years became a dreaded route.
