Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois talked to Real Madrid TV about the team’s return to training, which happened this Monday in preparation for the return of La Liga, scheduled for mid-June.
“Being back in training on my birthday is the best present for me. I was obviously looking forward to coming back, it was fun and I was excited about it. I hope that everything is solved soon so that we can train together and La Liga is definitely back,” said Courtois.
“I feel well, the team and myself were performing well before everything happened and we are excited about competing for the titles. I saw everyone and they’re ready to be back, so when we play the first game we’ll be at 100%. Asensio and Hazard will be back and we’ll need everyone to win,” he added.
When asked about his quarantine sessions at home he said that “It’s different when you train at home, you just have to do what you can. I was lucky because I bought some stuff before the lockdown. I did some exercises and when I was feeling better I did some specific routines with a friend who lives with me, so that I could be at 100%,” concluded Courtois.
He revealed how it was when they got to training on Monday "You had to get changed in your room instead of in the dressing room, the protocol you have to follow with facemasks and disinfectant, the social distancing... Luckily us goalkeepers are at a bit of an advantage because we always train alone. I'm feeling good after my injury and the vibes were really good. I'm raring to keep on training and get playing".
Since Monday was his birthday he was asked his greatest birthday wishes and desires "In these current times, I've got to ask for good health for everyone and to continue playing at this level of the game and to keep on winning trophies with Real Madrid. After winning the Spanish Super Cup, it makes you hungry for more. I want to win LaLiga and the Champions League too".
He further shed more light on his charity initiatives "They're really important. We're very lucky to be where we are and to have nice things. In these tough times, you've always got to help out. As a team, we've signed up to the initiatives led by Ramos and Isco. I also took part in some online video game tournaments to raise funds. We've been helping and mustn't stop".
The goalkeeper was having a phenomenal season for Real Madrid and Los Blancos will need him to keep it up if they want to have a good chance of winning La Liga and the Champions League.
